Western Union Perils
DON'T SEND MONEY!!

Attention - If you have lost money to a girl, go to the WU office and ask them in what city she picked it up. If they don't want to tell you, yell at them. Go to another office. You have every right to know. Then tell me her real city.

If you send money through Western Union, kiss it goodbye. If you are scammed after sending money through Western Union, there is nothing that they will or can do about it. They can tell you if many guys have sent this girl money before you send it, but they have no kind of insurance or even will to help you. (This means that if you are going to send money to a girl, ask the WU employee if this girl has received money from other men. If the answer is yes, you should reconsider sending it.)
But it gets worse...

If you send money overseas, Western Union does NOT require an address. A name and the control number is all they need. But it gets WORSE... Here is a release from The Auction Guild...

"Update 17 May 02 - TAG has been receiving emails revealing a new twist on the old Western Union wire transfer scam. The seller will tell you that he can insure your safety if you send the money to them but only provide the control number and use a fictitious ID. Once you get the item you purchased, you can then give the seller/scammer the correct name. One seller/scammer said you could have a secret question and answer, and the money would only be released to the person having the secret Q&A. This is NOT TRUE!!! All the seller/scammer needs is the control number to get the money. "

"UPDATE 9 JUN 2003: We have now heard that the seller/scammer does not even need the control number to get your money - all they need to know is that the money is coming and they will get it."

You can see the full report here...http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=6

So, before you send money through Western Union to someone you have never met, ask yourself..."Is it really so bad if I lose this money?" AND, ask the teller if this girl has received money from many men in different parts of the world, and the answer will tell you a lot.
